I started playing the French horn in seventh grade. The incongruous shape of the instrument immediately appealed to me, and so did the sound—floating, free, yet powerful.
My mother was a pianist, and my first teacher. Her love of music ran deep, and that same passion is with me every time I perform. My affinity for the singing voice goes way back: growing up, church choirs were my main musical outlets. Playing for the opera is a sheer joy—I consider it to be a most alive, all-encompassing musical experience.
Not surprisingly, being part of such a complex ensemble has given my solo playing an edge, making me intensively aware of the beauty of each note.
